Meet the Character #4: Fait
In honor of the release of Killing Demons (dark fantasy! letters! dragons!) this month, I’m sharing some of my original notes on the characters in the story. This project has been a long time in the making and it’s fun to look back at where it began!
Our final “meet the character” moment switches sides. In Killing Demons, we hear a lot about Midnight, of course—a demon herself—and we hear a lot from the people of Doenall, where the action takes place. But there’s another country nearby, one that considers Doenall its own territory. One whose conquering tendencies may seem familiar to students of history . . .
And from that nation, we get Celsus Fait!
Fait is an explorer, botanist, dedicated journaler, and thoroughly committed imperialist. He’s got the wrong idea about just about everything, and yet, I find him endearing. He’s a little bit like John Smith in the Disney version of Pocahontas—plus a cup of tea.
He also:
wants to discover stuff (lol)
hates feathers
has a wife and children at home (which doesn’t stop him . . .)
Fait plays a big role in one discovery in particular. And for that, if for nothing else, we can salute him. And hope that you, dear reader, are about to discover something even better in the new year!
