Meet the Character #2: Callum
In honor of the release of Killing Demons (dark fantasy! letters! dragons!) this month, I’m sharing some of my original notes on the characters in the story. This project has been a long time in the making and it’s fun to look back at where it began!
Last week we met Midnight, the villain of Killing Demons. Arguably, the hero is Callum, a prolific letter-writer and accidental king!
Seriously though, I have so much affection for Callum. Like Midnight, he is one of the long-standing characters who was always in the story, no matter how many drafts and details changed. Some of my original ideas for him, pictured above, included:
can’t tell a joke
two little sisters who disappeared ??
loves making candles
Hahaha, even I am not sure what I meant in some of these. It’s funny, but characters really do change and grow with us—especially in a book we’ve been working on for a very long time. Callum will always be with me, just like Midnight and many others from Killing Demons. Even if they don’t look quite the way I thought they would at first!
